People in Norwich were forced to do a double-take today when City Hall was colourfully decorated with hundreds of bras.
Organised by Norfolk and Waveney cancer charity, The Big C, people were invited to hook their bras to a chain on the balcony of City Hall, as part of the Link up your C cup appeal.
Women turned their bra cups into cash cups to highlight the charity and to raise funds.
Lesley Cologne, community fundraising manager at the Big C, said: “It’s something a bit different. It’s a fun way or raising awareness of the Big C.
“The reason we have done it now is because it’s the run up to Breast Cancer Awareness Month which takes place in October.
“It’s the third year that we have done it.
“By holding the event on the balcony of City Hall, it helps us get out message across to a lot of people. We have collected hundreds of bras. Even the lions outside the hall were wearing them.”
She said that the charity was focusing on the Closer to You campaign, which sees volunteers offering advice, information and support to those in need.
“We want to bring the service closer to people’s door steps,” she said.
Bras in good enough condition will be sold in Big C’s shops.
Sheriff of Norwich John Jennings described it as a great way to support a local charity offering invaluable support to those affected by cancer.
The charity currently has two support centres, one at thee Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and another in Great Yarmouth.
