A woman has been airlifted to hospital with serious head injuries after her car hit a tree and overturned in West Lexham.
Emergency services were called to the A1065 between Swaffham and Fakenham at 10.15am this morning.
Firefighters from Fakenham, Dereham and Swaffham released the woman driver who was trapped in the silver Xsara Picasso. She was taken by air ambulance to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.
An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman said the woman was anaesthetised before she was flown and that the injuries were “potentially life-threatening”.
The woman was travelling towards Fakenham, close to the junction of the A1065 and B1145, at the time of the crash. A second vehicle, a blue VW Eos, also travelling in the same direction, was also in the area. The driver of the VW was unhurt.
The road is now open.
Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the manner of driving of either of the vehicles. Anyone with information should contact PC David Allen at Swaffham roads policing on 101.
