Tina Hucker, 46, had been drinking with her son in the Three Horseshoes pub in Briston when the incident happened on September 6 last year.

Norwich Crown Court heard yesterday how they had been drinking at the pub since lunchtime and had been refused any more service, when a regular, John Robert Pointer arrived at about 8pm.

Prosecutor, Richard Kelly said that an altercation took place between Hucker, from Fakenham Road, Briston, and Mr Pointer.

Mr Kelly said: “She started shouting names at him, and he went into the beer garden to avoid conflict. An altercation took place in the beer garden.

“Hucker was aggressive and using foul language towards Mr Pointer.

“She smashed a pint glass over his head. He fell to the floor and she rained punches down on him. He punched her to the face, in retaliation, causing a serious nosebleed.

“Mr Pointer said ‘Enough’ to Hucker, but she raised both her feet and kicked him in the groin. Meanwhile, Hucker’s son got involved and Mr Pointer was struck again. The defendant and her son went home. Police were called and both Mr Pointer and Hucker were arrested. Mr Pointer was later released without charge.”

Hucker pleaded guilty to battery at an earlier hearing, and appeared for sentencing yesterday.

She was jailed for four months, suspended for 12 months, and given a 12-month supervision order with an alcohol specific requirement.

She was also banned from contacting Mr Pointer for five years, and banned from all licensed premises in the area, including establishments in Briston, Holt, Letheringsett, and Edgefield.

Ian James, for Hucker, said she was in financial difficulties and said her behaviour was sometimes a concern when she was in drink.

The court heard Hucker had previous convictions for fighting with females in pubs and with neighbours.

Sentencing her, Judge Katharine Moore told her she should be thoroughly ashamed of herself.
