A wide load became stuck in the middle of Cromer during the rush hour this morning, causing traffic chaos.

The 14ft-wide wooden holiday lodge, being carried on the back of an articulated lorry, had travelled more than 150 miles and was within four minutes of its destination when it got into difficulties.

As it travelled along the resort’s main one-way Church Street at about 8.30am, it could not get past scaffolding erected outside the Albion pub.

A long queue of traffic built up behind the lorry, grid-locking the town, and it eventually had to reverse back to a bus layby and allow the waiting traffic to pass.

It is currently waiting in the bus bay while scaffolders remove enough of their structure to let the lorry through.

A spokesman for the hauliers, R and M Vehicle Services Ltd, of Hull, said they believed the process could take up to two hours.

He said they had travelled from Hull and were on their way to deliver the lodge to Forest Park holiday park, at Northrepps, just outside Cromer.
