The Anchor Inn at Morston, near Wells, has won the EDP Readers' Restaurant of the Year.

It is run by old schoolfriends Harry Farrow and Rowan Glennie, who have carried out a complete refurbishment since taking over in June 2011.

Mr Glennie is general manager and Mr Farrow is head chef.

Mr Glennie said: 'The last 18 months here has been fantastic and to get this award means so much to us. We believe we are doing a good job here but for local people to make the effort to vote for us feels incredible.

'I want to thank them so much for their support and also thank the staff here who are doing a great job.'

Last month we challenged our readers to choose the best of a selection of 40 restaurants from around the county to win the coveted annual competition.

Mr Glennie said: 'There is so much great produce in this part of the country, it's the perfect place to run a restaurant. Harry likes to do some innovative, unusual, things in the kitchen and it's great to see it is being well received by local people.'

The Anchor has also been a finalist in the EDP Coastal Awards and the Aylsham Food Awards since Mr Glennie and Mr Farrow took over.
