When Christmas lights will be switched on in your part of Norfolk and Waveney

Our towns and villages will soon sparkle with Christmas lights. Here’s all you need to know about when and where the lights will be turned on over the coming weeks.

• Attleborough

Sunday December 6th

The lights will be switched on at 4.15pm, with Santa arriving at 2pm and there will also be a Christmas craft fair at the town hall from 1pm.

• Aylsham

Friday November 27

The switch-on takes place on in the Market Place at 6pm.

• Beccles

Friday November 27

Beccles’ Christmas lights will be switched on at 6pm by Beccles mayor Hugh Taylor, helped by the cast of the town pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk. There will also be street and stage entertainment before the big switch on.

• Brandon, Suffolk

Sunday December 6th

The town’s lights will be turned on by Lord Iveagh on Market Hill with proceedings getting underway at 5.45pm.

• Dereham

Sunday November 29

Dereham Carnival’s new mascot will be revealed to the public for the first time and will be switching on the lights in the town centre at 4.30pm with Mayor Linda Goreham.

• Diss

Saturday November 28

Pantomime actor Ben Langley has the honour of lighting up Diss, at the town’s market place at 6pm.

• Downham Market

Sunday November 29

A selection of stalls will be set up from midday, with the big switch-on at 4.30pm by a Minion.

• Fakenham

Saturday November 21

The event will run from 2pm to 5pm in the town’s Market Place, with Christmas stalls open in Bridge Street and Norwich Street from 11am.

Santa’s Grotto will be open from noon and he will be switching the lights on at 4.30pm.

• Gorleston

Sunday November 22

Mayor Shirley Weymouth will lead the proceedings in the high street, with the ceremony starting at 5pm. It’ll be followed by dazzling festive fireworks.

• Great Yarmouth

Friday November 20

The Christmas lights switch on takes place from 6pm when Santa will first appear in Yarmouth accompanied by Cinderella and her Ugly Sisters who are appearing in the pantomime at St George’s Theatre, with a fireworks display at 7pm.

• Halesworth

Saturday November 28

The action gets underway at 4pm and the lights will be switched on by the girl who won the town’s scarecrow trail competition, with a little help from Father Christmas.

There will be carols, a performance from the Southwold and Reydon Corps of Drums, face painting and Father Christmas’s grotto.

• Harleston

Saturday November 28

Marion Courtney will be lighting up the town at 4pm with the event taking place in the Market Place.

• Holt

Wednesday, November 25

This year’s Christmas lights switch-on will take place in Holt Market Place at 6pm, followed by fireworks.

• Hunstanton

Sunday November 29

The town’s switch on event has a ‘Frozen’ theme this year and people are encourage to come dressed in their favourite Frozen costumes for a full day of events, concluding with the lights switch on at 5pm by a celebrity guest.

• King’s Lynn

Sunday 22 November

The countdown will begin at 4.30pm, and the switch-on done by West Norfolk Deputy Mayor, David Whitby and Deputy Mayoress, Linda Whitby.

• North Walsham

Saturday November 28

The switch-on takes place at 6pm and will be switched on by Lauren Hemp, a North Walsham High schoolgirl who has played for England U15s football team.

• Norwich

Thursday November 19

YouTube stars Jim Chapman and Tanya Burr will be switching on the lights, at 6pm, after a candlelit procession with Father Christmas and friends.

• Reepham

Thursday December 3

The lights will be switched on with the help of a very special man in a red suit as part of the Festival of Light in Reepham Market Place following a magical children’s lantern parade from the Church. Children wanting to join the parade should be in St Mary’s Church at 4.45pm and the lights will go on at around 5.15pm. All kinds of lanterns or torches welcome but no naked flames, please.

• Sheringham

Friday, November 20

Sheringham Christmas lights switch-on takes place in the High Street at 6.30pm.

• Stalham

Sunday December 6

Stalham will be hosting a Christmas street fair from 2pm when the High Street will be closed. Santa will also be in the town hall handing out free presents to children under the age of 11 there will also be donkey rides and mini fairground rides.

• Swaffham

Sunday November 22

The fun starts at the market place opened at midday. There will be stalls, music, a funfair and a celebrity guest, dressed in red arriving on a sleigh. The lights will be switched on at 4.30pm.

• Thetford

Friday November 27

As well as the lights being switched on from the Market Place, there will be a range of festive family treats including: Santa’s Grotto and reindeer in King Street, fair rides and stalls in Well Street and a continental market in Riverside Walk.

• Watton

Sunday November 29

The Christmas lights will be switched on at 4pm by Mayor Ken Birch with a festive market and various events being held in the build-up.
