The striking two-pronged sculpture ‘Waves’, which is destined to welcome staff and students to Northgate High School in Dereham for generations to come, was officially unveiled on Monday afternoon.

The work of art was designed by year 11 student Adelle Crispe following a competition inspired by a school trip to the Tate Modern in London.

The design has now been made into a reality by Northgate School staff and a local company I & S Composites.

Asked about the features of Adelle’s work that caught the judges’ eye, faculty head Maureen Mottley said: “It’s been a long process of love, sweat and tears. We are really passionate and fought for it. The new head has supported us and had faith in us.”

Members of the public are invited to appreciate Waves in person at the school’s winter exhibition on December 19.

The event will see pupils, family members, staff and governors exhibit their own creations side by side in the school.

The deadline for submissions is November 26. See the school’s website www.northgate.norfolk.sch.uk or phone 01362 697033.
