It has become one of the UK’s top holiday destinations which has brought families together to enjoy stress-free breaks in the beautiful setting of the Suffolk countryside.
And now, the EDP and the Thetford and Brandon Times are calling on holidaymakers past and present to relive their memories of Center Parcs at Elveden Forest as the resort celebrates its 25th anniversary on Monday (August 4).
The opening of the picturesque site in 1989 brought not only a new meaning to what a holiday park should look like but had a huge effect on the wider area, creating hundreds of new jobs and boosting tourism in the region.
Many happy memories have been had as children, parents and grandparents have enjoyed the wide variety of activities in the 400-acre complex, which today include the subtropical swimming paradise and sports plaza.
However there was a darker moment in 2002 when a devastating fire ripped through the main central plaza, destroying much of the building and causing the resort to be shut.
It was rebuilt afterwards, with David Walls - Elveden’s on-village revenue manager - saying it gave Center Parcs the chance to build an holiday destination bigger and better than before.
