What do you think about Breckland Council’s budget?

Businesses across Breckland are being given the chance to have their say on the district council’s proposed budget.

The authority has published a draft document for 2013-14 and also a medium term financial plan and both are on the council’s website.

Breckland is still waiting to hear how much it will receive from the government in grants, but like all councils it has been warned to face another squeeze.

Businesses are being consulted so their views can be considered before the budget is discussed by the cabinet on February 12 and full council on February 28

Cabinet member responsible for finance Michael Wassell said: “Setting the budget this year has been particularly challenging for all local authorities.

“We know that there will be a substantial reduction in funding from central government for the next five years, so councils must continue to innovate and change the way they work.”

Mr Wassell added: “Our medium term financial plan will enable Breckland to manage this reduction in a planned way as far as is possible. As always, our focus will remain on providing value for money, promoting economic growth and putting frontline services and the needs of our residents first.”

To view the documents visit the website and go to the “live Breckland surveys” section on the consultation pages.

Comments or questions from businesses in the district concerning the draft budget should be sent to by December 31, marked for the attention of the Assistant Director of Finance.
