As the town is set to come together to pay tribute to the life of a popular young Dereham man, his parents have thanked the community calling the support 'unreal'.
The Railway Tavern on Yaxham Road in Dereham is hosting a tribute night and garden party in honour of Jordie Rae, a 28 year old man from Dereham who died suddenly on July 15.
Jordie's parents said they want to 'keep Jordie's memory alive forever' and thanked the pub owners as well as the people of Dereham for all the support they have received since their son's death.
The tribute night will be raising money for the mental health charity Mind and will see a number of local bands and singers performing, including Jordie's sister-in-law Bev Hatherwell.
Paul Sandford, from The Railway Tavern, said: 'Jordie was not only a friend, he was a Tavern regular. I have never known a town mourn as it has for him and I want to do as much as possible to ease the family's pain and raise awareness for the Mind organisation.'
The Railway Tavern also hosted a wake for Jordie following his funeral, which took place in Dereham on July 28. It was a day his father, George Rae, described as 'a beautiful but sad day'.
'The way the town turned out was absolutely amazing. We have been constantly surprised by just how many people knew and liked Jordie,' said Mr Rae.
'There were so many people at the funeral. The town has been fantastic throughout all of this.'
Jordie's mum, Tracey Rae, described the community in Dereham as 'amazing'.
She said: 'We want to thank Paul and his wife Debbie Sandford at the Railway Tavern. They also did the wake for Jordie and it was absolutely fantastic.
'We also want to thank Falcon Crane Services, where Jordie worked, for the support they have given us.
'We just want to thank everybody in general. The public and friends have given us so much support it has been unreal – what a community'
The couple said that they also wanted to publicly thank the police in Dereham who they described as 'second to none'.
They plan to install three memorial benches in Jordie's favourite spots around Dereham.
The Railway Tavern's tribute night will take place on Sunday August 27. Entry is free.
