A Norwich teenager’s dream will come true on Monday when she takes to the West End stage.
Harriet Bunton, 19, will join the cast as part of the ensemble at the Dominion Theatre, on Tottenham Court Road.
The former Thorpe House pupil has signed a one-year contract which will see her perform eight shows every week.
Miss Bunton’s mum, Teresa, who lives in Kilderkin Way, near Riverside, said that it has always been her daughter’s dream to work in the West End.
“I am very proud, she has worked so hard,” she said. “We used to take her to West End shows when she was a child – the first show she saw was Whistle Down the Wind. When Cats came to the Theatre Royal she said ‘that’s what I want to do’.”
Miss Bunton, who has performed in the Christmas pantomime at the Theatre Royal for 10 years, graduated from Epsom-based Laines Theatre Art School in July with a distinction in musical theatre.
Mrs Bunton, who works in business support for Norfolk County Council, said: “Harriet started at the Central School of Dance and Performing Arts in Norwich when she was just five years old, and from then on she just wanted to become a dancer and singer.
“With the help of Central’s teachers and principal Charlotte Corbett, she won a scholarship to the prestigious performing arts college Laines Theatre Arts.”
It was during her time at college that she auditioned for We Will Rock You and she secured her first professional job before she left in July.
“We are looking forward to the next stage in her life,” Mrs Bunton added.
“Harriet would like to be a leading lady one day. All of our family are so proud.”
