Villagers in Sea Palling say they feel 'marooned' after one of the main roads into the coastal village was flooded.

Surface water ran onto part of Stalham Road yesterday morning and has got worse, according to residents who live in the terraced houses in front of the flooded area.

A red flood warning sign has been put up at the start of the 100 yards of deep water but the road was not closed this afternoon.

There is another route out of Sea Palling via Waxham Road, which leads to Horsey.

Care home worker Patricia Mitchell, 52, who lives in one of the terraced houses, said: 'I have lived here for 30 years and it has never been so bad. We cannot go anywhere, even the local shop, unless we paddle up there in our boots which would be a bit of a job. We feel marooned in our homes. It would be nice to go somewhere today as it is Mother's Day but I don't want to risk it.'

The grandmother added: 'My husband and I want to go to the Hemsby Country and Western night tonight but I don't think that will happen.'

She said the water first came onto the road when she left for work at Hickling at 7.45am yesterday.

Mrs Mitchell, along with some of her neighbours, rung North Norfolk District Council and the fire service yesterday but no-one had turned up.

She said she had seen between 15 and 20 cars breakdown on the flooded road but vehicles continued to drive fast through the water, which caused it to go onto the driveways of the terraced houses.

'I'm worried and frustrated because I wouldn't want the water in my home,' Mrs Mitchell added.
