Freezing conditions and heavy snowfall has affected Royal Mail deliveries in north Norfolk.

Several vehicles were seen in the North Walsham sorting office car park covered in snow this morning.

A Royal Mail spokeswoman Morag Turnbull said: “We apologise to customers who are experiencing delays to their deliveries in Norfolk as a result of the severe winter weather conditions there.

“A range of measures have been put in place to ensure deliveries reach people as quickly as possible. We are doing our utmost to ensure continued deliveries but it may not be possible to do so everywhere because of the weather.”

Elsewhere in the district there have been reports that Roughton Road, Cromer, from Compit Hills, Roughton, is treacherous for drivers because of compacted snow.

Throughout the day gritting lorries with snow ploughs attached have been driving through Cromer and along the A140 towards Norwich.

Have you been having fun in the snow today or has it caused you problems?

  • No post for five days. Worse than that the upper part of Hall Road, Cromer, has steep drives and lanes, where the residents are mainly elderly, some disabled, yet not one council gritter or worker been anywhere near the area. Why does our council put out rubbish statements about caring about the elderly, they haven't a clue what state the people in thses homes are in. And they don't care

  • We had mail delivered in North Walsham today, and also the main roads were all gritted and fine to drive. So well done to all those people who have beenworking hard to make our lives as normal as possible despite the lousy weather.

  • 40 years ago we had 2 to 3 weeks of snow... And all ages had to deal with it... Having had so many years of limited snow fall in Norfolk, people panic and go bananas at the slightest few days of snow... Royal mail abandoned deliveries in great Yarmouth last Friday... But are out today to try and deliver what they can...... Life goes on .. Just deal with it safely... Think of the poor people that are still suffering from 3 feet of flood water in their houses a few weeks ago... Now they really have a problem for many weeks to come... Well done to all services coping with the snowy problems... We all know the UK is never geared up to fight snowy weather .. Heathrow a prime example .. But we solider on the best we can... One just has to...that is life.. Keep smiling summer is on the way....remember nobody dies from falling snow flakes ... Only what they do in the snow...?
