Southwold beach is once again bearing the brunt of the stormy weather.

Sand washed up by the ferocious waves has piled up on the promenade in front of the picturesque beach huts.

Jo Saunders, of Durrants Holiday Cottages, based in Southwold high Street, captured these images, and said: “I went down there yesterday because we had heard how high the sand was and it is a horrible day out there again today.”

In December, the storm surge wreaked havoc on the coastal town, causing severe damage to the beach huts and flooding further inland.

Durrants manage 20 beach huts along the Southwold beach front, including several in the South Green/Gun Hill area, which command £230 a week in rent during the high season.

“I assume the sand will be left there for now, until we have seen the last of the storms,” said Ms Saunders, who believes the tourists will still flock to the Suffolk coast this summer despite the horrendous weather this winter.

“I don’t think the storms will harm us in anyway, the beach huts are always really popular.”
