An appeal has been made for volunteers to come forward to help a new Community Speed Watch (CSW) group, which is being launched in Diss, tackle the danger caused by speeding motorists.

Police are continuing to work towards setting up the group, which will carry out speed checks in and around the town and surrounding parishes and record the speed of motorists who exceed the limits.

Officers are seeking further volunteers who will be trained to use a speed gun in an attempt to increase the number of roadside checks and raise the awareness of speeding issues in the area.

Motorists caught speeding are sent warning letters advising them that they have been caught speeding and of the consequences.

PCSO Aslaug Foreman, of Diss police, said: “Speeding is regularly raised as a concern by the residents of Diss and the additional presence of CSW volunteers at the roadside has a proven effect in other areas on getting drivers to slow down.

“While we had some good interest initially we still need more people to be part of the team and I would welcome further volunteers.”

Anyone interested in volunteering should contact the Diss Safer Neighbourhood Team on the non-emergency number 101 or email sntdiss@norfolk.pnn.police.uk.

  • Totally pointless operation when a group of wrinkles..yes I'm one also!! Set up a sign and warn motorists that they are there with a speed gun. It is a job for traffic police to manage randomly and with out warning signs. Drewray drive is a regular speedway with speeds in excess of 60 mph and not a policeman in sight.
