People in Cambridgeshire and Suffolk are being asked for their views regarding the merger of the two counties’ fire brigades.
A three-month public consultation has been launched to find out whether the public agrees that the merger is the best way to make savings and help protect the number of frontline firefighters.
People can find out more and make their views known either online at www.cambsfire.gov.uk or by picking up a hard copy of the consultation pack and survey at Cambridgeshire’s libraries and fire stations from next week.
A hard copy of the consultation pack can be posted to residents if they contact the fire service on 01480 444500. The closing date for the consultation will be January 14, 2013.
Once everyone’s views have been received, the results of the consultation will be fed back to Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Fire Authority ready for its meeting in February at which members will make a final decision.
If councillors from the fire authority and Suffolk’s cabinet agree, the merger will go ahead provided central government approves.
