It’s the dancefloor sensation that has proved one of the biggest internet hits of 2012 – and Norfolk finally has its own version.

Teenager Wyll James’ spoof of Korean smash hit Gangnam Style – entitled Norfolk Style – celebrates a way of life centred upon driving tractors, milking cows and making cider.

The 16-year-old wrote, recorded and edited the video during his Christmas holidays and saw it clock up more than 160,000 views on YouTube in just three days.

“Gangnam Style is one of the biggest things out there, and there weren’t any Norfolk parodies on YouTube, so I thought I’d give it a go,” said Mr James, of Dereham Road, Norwich.

“I’ve tried to get as many funny Norfolk stereotypes in there as possible, and I’ve had really good responses so far.”

The Notre Dame sixth former enlisted the help of friend Mateo Jarvis for the video, which was filmed in half an hour on Thursday and uploaded the following day.

After links to the video were posted on Facebook and Twitter, and reposted by Norwich City striker Grant Holt, it received more than 45,000 views within 24 hours and was selected as one of YouTube’s featured videos.

“It’s crazy, the reaction we’ve had to it,” said Mr James. “There have been so many positive comments, and it’s just confirmed what I was trying to do. No one seems to have taken offence from it, fortunately – most people seem to see the humorous side.”

Mr James is already considering a follow-up video to capitalise on the success of Norfolk Style, but says he will take his time.

“I haven’t got a clue what it will be yet, but I want it to make it a good one. At the moment I’m still enjoying what we’ve done. I’ve been on the laptop for three days straight.

“I thought we’d missed the boat a bit, because there have been so many other parodies, but it’s still popular. It’s such a strange feeling, thinking that people from Australia and South Africa have been watching a video we made.”

  • Comments such as the above are obviously from people who don't bother that the chorus indicates repeatedly that Norfolk women are inbred!! Surely you have mothers, sisters wives or girlfriends?

  • Saw this on Facebook while I was in London. Showed it to everybody and shared it. On your way to a million hits we hope! This is truly unique to Norfolk unlike Bill Borrett's Broadband.

  • at 57yrs old and norfolk born and bred and proud of it i think this is showing a good sense of humour from a young couple as the singer says he is norfolk born and bred.its far better than going round vandalising and assaulting persons and property.i seem to remember a lot of schoolboy jokes about other parts of the country and it was taken in good heart have we really got to the stage that we think we are that prim and proper we cant see our young doing no different than we did fifty years ago. if so wheres the tardis i want to go back and live in an era of laughs. good luck boys !!!

  • How can such virulent self denigration, the depiction of an acute attack of calcified tabloid brain-spanking, be positive for Norfolk's image? Is this supposed to go with the cabbage heads?
