Police were called out to a property in the Norwich area at about 5.50pm where they found 13-year-old Maisie Baxter.

A spokesman said there were not thought to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the Framingham Earl High School pupil’s death.

Now her school has paid tribute to the schoolgirl, who was said to be a keen singer with a bright future.

Nicola Furneaux, headteacher at Framingham Earl High, said: “Staff and students are devastated and shocked at this sad news and our thoughts are with Maisie’s family and friends.

“Maisie was a sunny, friendly girl and a bright student who played a full part in our school community. We will always remember her, and her beautiful singing voice; her performance at our talent show last year was one of the highlights of the competition.

“Maisie’s friends speak of her as someone who had the loveliest laugh – a warm giggle which cheered everyone. In lessons, Maisie worked hard and was a pleasure to teach.

“At a recent parents’ evening, all the teachers were keen for her to take up their subjects for GCSE. She had a very bright future ahead of her.”

A YouTube video of Maisie, from Trowse, singing Ave Maria at her school last year has been posted on social networking site Twitter.

On social networking website Facebook, Maisie is pictured with fellow Framingham Earl pupil and singer Ronan Parke, who shot to fame when he reached the final of Britain’s Got Talent in 2011. The Facebook page was set up by one of the singer’s fans.

Students and staff at the school are now being offered support.

Ms Furneaux added: “Her loss will be felt across the school. Students and staff are being given the support they need to try to come to terms with what has happened, immediately, at this terribly difficult time, and in the long-term.”

Following the news of Maisie’s death, social networking sites have been flooded with tributes to the Norwich schoolgirl

On Twitter, friends have posted tributes and expressed sympathy for her family, adding “#RIPMaisie” or “#RIPMaisieBaxter” to their tweets.

One said: “Cannot begin to imagine what Maisie’s family is going through. My thoughts go out to them,” while another said simply “rest in peace beautiful”.

News of the teenager’s death has also touched a number of strangers who have sent messages of condolence.

“I didn’t know you sweetheart but God bless beautiful and I will say a little prayer for you tonight,” said one tweeter.

Police have now passed details of the death on to the coroner’s office and an inquest is expected to be opened in the next few days.

Headteacher Ms Furneaux said the school would be assisting any investigation in whatever way it could.

  • I have read some of the "tributes" put onto the RIP Maise Baxter facebook page and really can't understand why some people are so nasty and vile....a young child has died in tragic circumstances. These "people" should be tracked down by the police and if they are in this country they should be prosecuted. My thoughts and prayers go to the Baxter family and friends in this terrible time of their lives. May you rest in peace Maise.
