Visitors to Whitlingham Country Park near Norwich are celebrating the reopening of a café at the Flint Barn visitor centre.

The café has been closed for about two months but reopened under new management yesterday.

The previous staff have been retained and feedback from visitors has been positive.

Churchill Catering, which also operates the café at Thetford High Lodge, has invested £60,000 in the latest equipment and furnishings.

Area manager Beverley Pooley said: “We hope to give customers something extra. We’re expecting the same type of customer as at High Lodge – people who enjoy the outdoors. We want to bring our expertise and enhance the customer experience. We will be open seven days a week bar Christmas Day, and feedback so far has been good. We will be listening to customers about what they like.”

Customers yesterday were pleased to have the café back and the fact that the previous staff had been kept on.

One customer, who did not wish to be named, added: “I would give it 10 out of 10. We’ve had a massive Chelsea bun and a sausage roll and it was gorgeous.”

It will be serving an all-day menu starting with cooked breakfasts and managing director Tony Nicholl, who founded Churchill Catering 20 years ago, said: “We are very excited to be opening at such a popular and beautiful site as Whitlingham.”

Churchill, which is based in Rickinghall near Diss, runs cafes on 120 sites from Kent to Falkirk in Scotland and employs 350 people in Norfolk and Suffolk alone. Sarah Peachey, the deputy manager at High Lodge, has taken over the Whitlingham café as manager.

The Barn Café will employ 10 staff in summer and five in the winter.

  • We prefer the lake at the uea it's much more of a natural habitat free to park, not over populated either

  • The area use to be a great place to visit. Custom will be down to the car parking scandal that goes on there. The whole area has been ruined by greed and the council. Beware the clampers.

  • Whittlingham is great but I find that the hairy things that some people have on the end of ropes leave smelly brown stuff behind, and some even make loud noises and aren't on ropes so I have stopped going.

  • Great. I do hope they take cards now, as they never did before and we never have cash.

  • I wish it could be run less like an English cafe, apart from having to pay to park why not have table service and an opportunity to have a glass of wine.

  • Whitlingham cafe is great but the walks are all spoilt by the large amount of dog mess everywhere plus large aggressive dogs off their leads so I have stopped going
