Chris Bell, a forecaster at UEA-based Weatherquest said temperatures were set to stay “cold” to at least Thursday or Friday with highs of about 3C before reaching slightly higher temperatures of 7C or 8C at the weekend.

Mr Bell said snow showers could be expected across most of the county, particularly in northern and eastern parts, lasting about 15 to 30 minutes before stopping.

He said: “It’s not out of the ordinary to get snow during March and unfortunately its (the cold weather) going to last a little longer.

“By Saturday it should be getting back up to 7C or 8C which is average for the time of year but between now and Thursday high temperatures during the day are going to struggle to getr much higher than 1C to 3C or 4C and overnight will be below freezing.”
