A man has been taken to hospital after a light aircraft crashed at Tibenham airfield in south Norfolk.

Emergency services were called at around 3.50pm today and a man in his 50s has been taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital with a back injury.

An ambulance service spokesman said the injury was not thought to be serious.

Two paramedic ambulances and a land ambulance attended, and the fire service sent three appliances - one from Long Stratton, one from Harleston and a water carrier and support appliance from Hethersett.

Crews described the scene as an “emergency landing”.

They made the scene and the aircraft safe, confining a leak of aircraft fuel using enviromental packs.

Fire fighters did not need to cut the man free from the glider, and the stop message was recorded at 4.31pm.

A police spokesman said officers were still on scene to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
