The third Eastern Counties Vintage Tractor Show was the most successful one yet, said organisers who hailed the weather and all-ages appeal for attracting more than 4,000 people.

The event at the Norfolk Showground brought people from across the county to enjoy a family day out among hundreds of historic tractors, lorries and cars.

Organiser Roger Desborough said: “This is the best one we’ve had. We had a good crowd and we got good weather, so I would imagine we got about 4,000 people – maybe a bit more.

“It’s been a successful weekend. Everybody seems to have had a good time and that’s the main criteria.”

Star turns at the two-day event included the Peak Vale Tractor Pullers and steam engine racing, while there were activities including terrier racing and trial bike displays in the main ring. The array of vehicles on show included more than 450 tractors, 60 commercial lorries and 130 cars – some dating back to the 19th century.

“We had a fantastic display of cart horses and driving horses, as well as mini steam engine racing for the children, which went down well,” said Mr Desborough.

“We had an excellent display of lorries and pre-1930s cars and motorbikes, and Cyril the Squirrell was there for the children, so there really was something for everyone.”

He added that organisers were hopeful of putting on next year’s show at the same venue, and that discussion would take place with the showground.
