Pupils at a King’s Lynn school are hoping to take the iTunes singles chart by storm after releasing a charity single for Children in Need this week.

Around 60 students and staff at Springwood High School worked together to write, record and produce the single called Behind the Mask.

Peter Strudwick, director of music at the school, praised the hard work of students and staff from the music department for making a “brilliant” song.

He said: “It started off as an idea which some of my Year 13 music technology students had and it went from there really.

“It has, however, involved pupils from across the school as we asked students from different form groups to write a line about what they think about Children In Need.

“Once we pulled the best lines together, we had the makings of a great song and the work in the recording studio has really made this a great commercial song. It has all gone much better than we could have ever dreamt of.

“We are now focusing all our attention of using social networking websites to get our song out there and we are hoping if we get enough downloads we can get into the top 40.”

He added: “It’s a great way for pupils to learn about the music industry and raise money for an excellent cause at the same time.”

The song has been registered on iTunes so that all sales will raise money for charity and qualify the song for a chart position if it sells enough copies.
