A charity single by students at a King’s Lynn school is closing in on the top 40 of the iTunes singles chart.

Around 60 students and staff at Springwood High School worked together to write, record and produce the single called Behind the Mask.

The single is raising cash for Children in Need and currently sits 87th in the iTunes pop chart after just two days on sale.

Peter Strudwick, director of music at the school, said: “It is also showing at 91st in the overall iTunes chart and rubbing shoulders with established acts such as Adele, One Direction and Oly Murs.

“This is a fantastic start but our aim is to try and get the song into the top 40, which we believe would involve us having to sell around 5,000 copies.

“This would raise somewhere in the region of about £3,000 plus any radio play royalties.

“But if it gets picked up in a big way, and we have started to see some fairly high-profile re-tweets on Twitter, then who knows?”

Mr Strudwick has said the idea for the song came from some of his Year 13 music technology students and has involved the entire school as pupils were all asked to write a line about what their feelings towards Children in Need.

He added: “It’s a great way for pupils to learn about the music industry and raise money for an excellent cause at the same time.”
