West Norfolk's latest pop hopefuls showcased their new music video to a packed house last night.

More than 300 crammed into King's Lynn Arts Centre for the unveiling of Jake Morrell's Help Sign.

After a big screen showing of the video, Mr Morrell and his three-piece band played a 40-minute live set to thank those who took part in the film.

Shot in the countryside around Lynn and at a 'secret location' near the town, the five-minute video, which was directed by Luke Goold and filmed by Martin Stralf, features upwards of 80 young people from around the area.

'It was a mixture of members of King's Lynn Youth Theatre, fans and friends,' said Mr Morrell. 'We were very happy with it, it was a fantastic effort.'

He said he was also pleased with Saturday night's turnout, as those who appear in the film came and brought their friends along to its premier.

'We only had one row, right at the back, that wasn't full,' he added.

Jake Morrell, 22, plays what he describes as a fusion of old and new dubbed pop folk, with musicians Rob Wiseman, on keyboards, Tom Maddison on double bass and Lewis Jenkins on drums.

Last night, he said the band was 'quietly confident' of being able to make it on the music scene.

'We're trying to gig in London and take opportunities when we can to get on the larger music scene,' he said.

'I think we've got a good product. But whether we get noticed by the right people is down to the luck of the draw.'

After having them play a set on his show, radio Norfolk's Stephen Bumfrey said: 'I could hear this musicf on Radio One.'

Since they began playing together in April, the band have gigged around Norfolk and supported the Brand New Heavies at Festival Too.

They have also appeared on the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and have a number of shows in London booked before their next performance in Norfolk at Hunstanton Social Club, on December 28.
