A football match inspired by a Norfolk model saw hundreds of pounds and much-needed awareness raised for a brain tumour charity.

Friends, family and football fans came together for Kerri’s Kick Off at Dereham Town’s Aldiss Park yesterday.

It was inspired by Kerri Parker, 30, from Dereham, who was diagnosed with a brain tumour in October.

The match was organised by Vanessa and Neil Burrell, from Dereham, who are friends of the Parker family.

It raised around £1,500 for Brain Tumour Research.

Miss Parker, who lived in Norwich for many years, runs one of the UK’s biggest model training schools.

She is working in Spain and was unable to attend the match but her mother Kathleen Parker read a statement on her daughter’s behalf, which thanked everyone and encouraged the players to keep fit and healthy.

Miss Parker is now facing a nervous wait to see if she will need chemotherapy but her mother said she is staying positive.

Mrs Parker said: “She is getting on with work and also focusing on helping others. She is determined to get Dereham fit and is looking to run free boot camps.”

The match, between Team Burrell and Team Rancho, was won 6-5 by Team Burrell.

The match ball was placed on the pitch by Paul Fryer, 30, from Peterborough, who is undergoing radiotherapy and chemotherapy for a brain tumour and has become friends with Miss Parker through time spent together at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, His son Harry, three, blew the whistle.
