Archant Norfolk.

Dozens of families got up close to a range of fire service vehicles today for a special open day to mark 70 years of the Fire Fighters Charity.

Members of staff from Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service’s Carrow station in Trowse organised the event, which is set to raise hundreds of pounds for the cause close to their hearts.

The family fun day was the second time the station had staged an open day and firefighters demonstrated to members of the public how they respond to road traffic collisions and chip pan fires.

Claire Bower, business support administration assistant and fundraising coordinator, said they hoped to top the £630 raised at last year’s event.

“It has been really, really busy and all the children love to look around the fire engines,” she said.

The fire service’s water rescue unit and fire experience unit were also at the Diamond Jubilee Fire and Rescue Station and officials hope to make the open day an annual event.

There was also games, a tombola, face painting and refreshments.
