Aylsham’s new Anglican vicar has praised the generosity of church members who handed over thousands of pounds to charities in 2012.
The Rev Andrew Beane, who took over last year from long-serving minister the Rev Bob Branson, said the congregation had given away nearly £4,000 to “Local, national and international charities”.
He said: “The money was raised at all sorts of events and at special services - everything from coffee mornings and raffles to a teddy bear zip wire have helped with the fantastic effort.
“The Children’s Society was the biggest benefactor, receiving nearly £2,000.”
He added: “The congregation at Aylsham are a wonderful bunch, and are so astonishingly generous, not only with their money, but also with their time and energy.”
Mr Beane said Aylsham Parish Church was “no newcomer to fundraising” as its regular Monday sale had raised thousands of pounds towards the upkeep of the church and special building projects over the last 12 years.
The Church is open every day, Sunday services are held every week at 10am. The Monday sale take place every Monday from 8am to 12noon.
Police are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found in a garden pond today.
