The art of ventriloquism will be celebrated at a town magic museum and theatre.

Steve Hewlett will be hosting a Ventriloquist Day convention at Davenport’s Magic Kingdom in North Walsham tomorrow between 11am-7pm.

Part of the event will feature dolls dating back to around 1890 and images dating back to 1849.

The Davenport family was a key supplier of ventriloquial figures in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s.

Other attractions will include the first ever Young Ventriloquist of Great Britain competition. Acts have to apply before the convention.

Steve will be performing his show and there will also be a routine from his friend and mentor Jimmy Tamley with his Jungle Jim show, who became famous after winning the ITV talent show New Faces in the 1980s.

There will also be talks on ventriloquism and famous dummies from the past.

Visitors to the convention will be able to talk to relatives of legendary ventriloquists.

A full day package includes three lectures and three shows and costs £34 for adults and £17 for children. Tickets for the 4.30pm Jungle Jim show and Young Ventriloquist of Great Britain competition only, cost £8.50 for adults and £6.50 for children.

Bookings can be made online at or by calling 01692 405254. Tickets can also be bought on the day.
