People wanting to donate money to the families of the victims of the fatal Cley helicopter crash are being urged to take precautions against scam appeal accounts.
A warning was issued on RAF Lakenheath’s Facebook page earlier today, warning donators that it was looking into fake accounts.
A statement said: “The 48th FW Legal Office is investigating several sites claiming to be collecting contributions for the affected family members and cautions against making a donation unless you, the donating member, is absolutely certain of the validity of the organization and/or the website to which you are contributing.”
A USAF spokesman said the base was unable to set up its own collection due to military regulations, but it was directing to an appeal started by base resident, Caitlin Malone.
That account has raised more than $23,000 as of today, with funds raised to be split equally among the four families of the victims.
