Claire Harris, 32, of Beechwood Gardens, Lowestoft, and a 17-year-old boy also from Lowestoft appeared before Lowestoft magistrates charged with arson with intent to endanger life.

Harris was remanded into custody until January 14 when she will appear at Ipswich Crown Court for a plea and directions hearing.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was granted conditional bail until January 14 when he will also appear at the crown court.

As previously reported, William Dodds and his pet dog managed to escape from the house in Britten Road on the Whitton estate after he spotted flames coming from a porch area.

The ground floor of the home was badly damaged by the fire.
