A Norwich road which was partially cordoned off yesterday after a 10ft-deep hole opened up has been fully closed to cars until Monday.
Barriers were erected around the hole on Park Lane, near its junction with Unthank Road, after the road surface collapsed.
A police spokesman said that the hole had appeared around 20m from the junction with Unthank Road.
The hole is believed to have opened on a recently-resurfaced part of the road near the kerb, and is 10ft deep and around 2ft wide.
Anglian Water checked the hole this morning and found that it is not a sewerage or water main issue.
No cause has been identified yet but Norwich City Council’s highways team will be working over the weekend to investigate further and carry out the necessary repair work.
The road will remain fully closed to cars until Monday. Diversion signs are in place, but pedestrians and cyclists can still gain access.
