Anglian Water working to restore supplies and bringing in bottled water to help businesses during late night shopping
Anglian Water has said repairs to a burst main in King’s Lynn may not be completed before 8pm tonight.
The company has apologised for another burst main in the town centre which has left more than 70 properties still without supplies.
The Norfolk Street main burst around 9am but a number of customers have been reconnected by engineers working at the site.
Anglian Water has extra staff on site and will be handing bottle water to affected properties this evening.
A spokesman said the repair was a bigger job that expected and would take longer than originally thought.
“We are very sorry for the disruption and inconvenience caused to businesses and customers in central King’s Lynn because of a burst water main on Norfolk Street.
“We know this is the second time in recent weeks that a burst has caused significant disruption to the area and are truly sorry. Our priority at this time is to fix the problem and restore supplies as quickly as we can. We will then carry out further investigations to see if anything can be done to reduce the chances of similar problems in future.
“The burst happened shortly before 9am, causing properties to lose water or experience a reduced pressure. Our engineers worked throughout the morning to boost pressure in the network. By 1pm we were able to fully shut-off the damaged section of pipe, meaning supplies were restored to all but 130 properties. Unfortunately, these 130 will remain without water until the main is fully repaired,” said a spokesman.
The problem comes just weeks after most of the town centre lost its supply on October 26 due to another pipe burst which left many without any supply for the an entire day.
