Trains between Norwich and Cambridge have been delayed this evening, with train operator Greater Anglia blaming the delays on a level crossing fault at Brandon.

It meant trains travelling in both directions between the two cities were facing delays of up to 15 minutes because they had to run at reduced speed.

But the problem had been sorted out by 8.30pm, with trains running normally again.

Trains from Norwich to Lowestoft and Norwich to Great Yarmouth also suffered delays of up to 15 minutes because of a signalling problem at Whitlingham Junction.

Trains between Norwich and Sheringham were also affected, with some trains terminating at Cromer at short notice, a blow for passengers heading to West Runton and Sheringham.

The signalling problem was sorted out by 8.40pm, but Network Rail warned there could still be some ‘residual delays’.

  • Ever since they changed from the original manned signal boxes and crossings on the Norwich - Ely line there have been problems, perhaps the old method was tried and tested and therefore much more reliable than these new radar detector systems!!
