POLICE are keen to trace the drivers of two vehicles seen on the A143 at Gillingham on Tuesday evening (July 17) prior to a fatal car crash, which claimed the lives of two Lowestoft teenagers.
Popular 18-year-olds Sam Jaggard and Kathryn Rivett died in the collision on the A143-A146 Norwich road at Gillingham, near Beccles, on Tuesday.
The two Lowestoft teenagers were in a red Vauxhall Corsa being driven by their friend Georgia Puttock, also 18, who is in “a serious but stable condition,” according to police, at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge.
The three former Kirkley High School - now East Point Academy - pupils were driving towards Lowestoft at about 6.30pm when the Corsa was in collision with a black Mercedes, which was going in the opposite direction, on a stretch of road west of the McDonalds and BP roundabout.
The occupants of the Mercedes, who are not local, were not seriously injured.
As investigations continue into the crash, a Norfolk police spokesman said: “It is believed that immediately prior to the collision, a vehicle travelling towards Norwich was overtaking a moped.
“Officers would like to trace the drivers and any occupants of these vehicles as they may be important witnesses and may able to assist the investigation.”
● Information should be directed to PC Keith Wiseman at Norfolk Constabulary’s Serious Collision Investigation Team on 101.
