Emergency services rushed to the aid of a man who was trapped between two dumper trucks in St Olaves this morning.

The Essex Air Ambulance, paramedics, police and two fire crews from Great Yarmouth and one from Loddon attended Herringfleet Road where a workman had become trapped by the foot, between two mini dumper trucks.

The accident occurred off the main road where the man was believed to have been working on a building site on private land.

Firefighters were called to the scene at about 9.50am and used hydraulic cutting gear to free the man, thought to be in his twenties, while police made the scene safe. He was then taken to the James Paget University Hospital by ambulance and the air ambulance was called off.

The extent of his injuries is not yet known but he was said to be conscious and talking to paramedics while they freed him.

Lee Mulley was working at another site about 100 yards down the road, where a new house is being built. The 32-year-old from Newton Flotman said: “We wondered what all the commotion was, when we went up to have our break at the corner (to Blocka Road) at about 10.15am.

“By that time we could see doctors in their cars go up there and another fire engine, making three altogether.

“The air ambulance circled overhead twice and landed behind the trees, out of site, I suppose in a field or clearing.

“A policeman came and blocked the road with traffic cones, and put his sirens on. He said it was an accident on a private bit of road, on a private estate.

“It must be bad if the air ambulance came out.”
