The incident took place in and outside the Loyal Taxis office at about 4.30am.

The victim, who is in his early 20s and from the Norwich area, was initially taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital before being transferred to Addenbrooke’s in Cambridge where police said he remains in a “serious but stable” condition.

Detective Sergeant Dave Freeman, Norwich CID, appealed for witnesses, saying: “I would ask anyone who was involved in the incident in some way, witnessed it or has information concerning it to get in touch with me directly.”

Two men, one in his late teens and one in his 20s, both from the local area, were arrested in connection with the incident. The man in his late teens was released without any further action and the man in his 20s was later released on bail pending further enquiries until the beginning of June.

Call DS Freeman at Norwich CID on 101 or alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
