The attack is alleged to have taken place in the car park of the historic Adam and Eve pub on Bishopgate.

Police said a man in his 50s has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in police custody where he will be questioned.

A spokesman added: “The car park remains sealed off while enquiries continue and police are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious in this area in the early hours.”

Police have not released any more information about the alleged incident, the victim or victims, or any injuries sustained.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said it did not have any record of any assault in Norwich in the early hours.
