Witnesses are being sought after a fire at a home in Worthing Road, Lowestoft, which police are treating as arson.

The blaze started at about 1am on Saturday in two wheelie bins and two mattresses left at the side of the property and then spread to a wall and a window which were damaged by the heat.

The alarm was raised by a member of the public who spotted the fire and alerted the householder.

A crew from Lowestoft South Fire Station was sent to the incident, and a second crew from Lowestoft North was also called to the scene when it became clear the fire had spread to the external fascia of the house.

The firefighters used a hose-reel, a short extension ladder and a thermal imaging camera to deal with the blaze and check for hot spots, with both crews returning to base by 1.53am.

Police are investigating how the fire started and are asking anyone who may have been in the area between 11.30pm and 1.30am to come forward.

If you can help, ring Lowestoft CID on 101 quoting reference LO/14/1159.
