More than 150 homes on Westgate had been left without power four around four hours after the overhead cable was damaged.

Fire crews attended the scene at around 9.40am and fenced off the damaged area as a precaution before handing the incident over to engineers.

A spokesperson for UK Power Networks said: “Power was interrupted to 521 customers at about 9.45am today and was returned to normal for the majority of customers by about 10.40am. A further number of customers would have seen a brief interruption to their supplies of less than two minutes when the initial fault occurred.

“We would like to reassure the remaining 156 customers that we are working to restore their electricity as soon as we can. We realise how difficult it can be to be without power and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Power was restored to all properties by around 2pm.
