The father of Connor Barrett said the heartbroken family has been comforted by the number of tributes paid to his son who died after being stabbed at a party in Hemsby.

The violent death of 20-year-old Mr Barrett, who was stabbed in the chest and back while at a private party on Saturday night, has shocked the close-knit community on the east coast and sparked a fast-paced murder investigation.

Tonight Mr Barrett’s father, Lee Barrett released a statement about his son.

He said: “The tragic loss of my son Connor has left myself and the whole family utterly devastated and also a beautiful child fatherless.

“We have been comforted by the amount of wonderful tributes made by family members and friends of Connor.

“Connor was a loving, caring young man and a wonderful father who doted on his son.

“Knowing Connor was loved by so many and touched so many lives has made me extremely proud and grateful to have been a part of my son’s short but full life.”

Six teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of murder following Mr Barrett’s death.

Three teenagers, aged 15, 16 and 18, were this morning released on bail. Three others, two aged 15 and one aged 17, remain in police custody.

Mr Connor died at the James Paget University Hospital following an attack at a home in The Glebe in Hemsby at about 11.25pm on Saturday. Police believe there may have been an altercation at the property about half an hour before Mr Barrett was fatally injured.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, officers are expected to remain at the property as the search for a weapon continues.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Durham, who is leading the joint Norfolk and Suffolk Major Investigation Team, said focus is on finding the wepaon, believed to be a knife, and speaking to witnesses.

He said: “We have made progress with identifying and speaking to a number of people present at the party.

“We know that Connor died as the result of being stabbed by a knife or similar sharp-bladed instrument and we continue our searches to recover the weapon or weapons used, including some localised searches in the Hemsby area.”

Mr Barrett, the father of a young son aged about three, was a guest at the house party, believed to be a family get-together.

Anyone with information on what happened is asked to contact the Norfolk and Suffolk Major Investigation Team in Norfolk on 101 or, alternatively, pass information anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
