The body, believed to be that of the missing man aged in his 80s, was discovered by members of the fire service dive team at 4.15pm today.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and next-of-kin have been advised.

The man was reported missing at 1.20pm yesterday, prompting a large scale search of the river near Costessey Mill involving police officers and search teams from Norfolk Fire Service. The police helicopter was also called out to fly over the river.

Emergency services this morning resumed their search for a man who had been missing from the Costessey area for more than 24 hours and were joined by members of the Norfolk Lowland Search and Rescue team and this afternoon the fire service diving teams arrived.

Officers received a call following the discovery of a Ford Focus car found abandoned close to the River Wensum at Costessey Mill in The Street, Costessey.

The car was believed to belong to the man, who had been missing since around 10am the same day.

Despite an extensive search of the stretch of river in the Drayton Green Lane, Costessey Lane and Lowe Road areas the man was not found and search teams stood down overnight.
