The westbound carriageway of the A47 Acle Straight has now cleared after being closed for over an hour earlier this morning because of a crash involving a van and three cars.
The crash happened just before the Acle roundabout, which connects the A47 and A1064, and saw police close the Acle Straight for traffic travelling in the Norwich direction.
Police were called to the crash at 7.30am, around 300m from the roundabout, where a BMW, Vauxhall Corsa, a Volkswagen and a white van had been involved with the crash.
The Acle Straight had been closed from the Great Yarmouth Asda supermarket to prevent traffic building up further and was being diverted to the A1064 via Caister and Filby.
Shortly before 9am the official Norfolk Constabulary Twitter account was used to say: “The earlier collision on the Acle straight has been dealt with, the road is now open.”
The East of England Ambulance Service was not called to the crash and no one was injured.
Police in Norwich have launched an investigation after a woman claimed in a tweet she had knocked a cyclist off their bike.

Average speed cameras would not do anything on the Acle straight, it has a 60mph limit for most of its length and i cannot remember the last time i was travelling at anything approaching 60mph on it. Traffic numbers act as their own speed limit. Most accidents are caused by bad overtaking and travelling too close to the vehicle ahead, not speed.

How weird? A BMW and a white van were involved. Must be the 'road conditions' then.

A huge reduction in the accidents on this road would happen if average speed camera were placed at each end of the road. How simple is that!! Furthermore the cost would be small.

There should just be a sign put up at either end of the Acle Straight which says.."be warned, the nearest hospital if you drive like an eejit and crash, is the James Paget"...that should focus a few minds and ensure impecable driving from all on that road....lot cheaper than speed cameras too! ;)

This time I agree with V- it is very obvious to anyone with common sense using the Acle straight that it is a place to be even more careful than usual. More accident reduction signs and more surveillance cameras which can be used to target drivers who are guilty of potentially dangerous driving might concentrate a few minds-even if the offenders were only given cautions.

It's not the road, but the idiots who drive along there. Perhaps cameras (speed or CCTV) placed along the road and at both ends would concentrate peoples minds a little more
