'Don't you know there's a war on?'
Thousands of visitors to north Norfolk this weekend are certainly behaving as if that famous 1940s' catchphrase is true.
The North Norfolk Railway, also known as the Poppyline, is hosting its spectacular 1940s weekend.
Sheringham town and the heritage railway have turned into one big VE Day-style party with gorgeous GIs and their glamorous gals dressed up to the nines as they stroll through a town decorated in period style or board steam engines bound for more fun and '40s' thrills at the stations in Weybourne and Holt.
Whole families have entered into the spirit with mum in stunning hat, seamed stockings and ultra-red lipstick, proud dad in uniform and the kids wearing hand-knitted jumpers and carrying gas masks.
There is jiving on the platform, jeeps to 'ooh' and 'aah' at, and Spam sandwiches to tuck into, followed by treacle tart or bread pudding.
The nostalgia fest continues tomorrow and at 2.30pm costumed visitors will gather outside The Lobster pub to parade at 3pm through the town to Ottendorf green for a lowering of the flag ceremony. It is rumoured that Churchill may be there to take the salute and a Spitfire is expected to fly over at 3.30pm.
