Two men have appeared in court after police discovered a large scale cannabis factory in Bungay on Saturday

Sy Thuong Nguyen, 25, and Huan Van Chu, 18, appeared at Ipswich Magistrates Court charged with one court each of producing cannabis.

The men, who spoke at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court through a Vietnamese interpreter, entered no plea during the hearing.

Naomi Turner, prosecuting, told the court it was a “fairly sophisticated cannabis factory”, with the electricity meter bypassed and rooms specifically divided for various stages of growth of plants.

The two men, of no fixed address, were remanded in custody to appear at Ipswich Crown Court on May 16.

Police are still at the scene of a large scale cannabis factory that was discovered in Nethergate Street on Saturday.

A crime scene investigator was this morning examining the former cigarette storage building, which was raided by police on Saturday afternoon.

The building is still sealed off as police ascertain the full scale of the cannabis factory.

Officers had executed a warrant at the building under the Misuse of Drugs Act after receiving information from a member of the public.

A man was arrested at the property and in the early hours of yesterday a second man was arrested in Earsham Street in Bungay.

Police had called the factory large scale.
