The death of a pedestrian hit by a train at a level crossing in Besthorpe is not being treated as suspicious as train services have resumed on the Norwich to Cambridge line.

Trains on the route were brought to a standstill after a person was struck by the 10.52am Liverpool Lime Street to Norwich service operated by East Midlands trains at Spronces level crossing in Bunwell Road, Besthorpe shortly before 5pm.

Officers from the British Transport Police (BTP) and paramedics attended the incident, but the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Greater Anglia rail spokesman said services had resumed on the line shortly after 6pm, but said there could be delays as services tried to clear the backlog caused by the stoppage.

A BTP spokesman said a file was being prepared for the coroner.
