A seven-year-old boy is in a serious but stable condition after a collision involving a van in Hemsby.

The youngster suffered serious head injuries following the incident in Summerfield Road and was airlifted to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge, where he remains.

Police were called to reports of the collision at 6.07pm yesterday between a white Vauxhall Combo and the boy who was on a child's scooter.

No-one else was injured.

The accident happened in a quiet residential road, and neighbours in the crescent spoke of their shock at what had happened.

The van was removed on the back of a truck at 9.45pm.

The East Anglian Air Ambulance Service said Anglia One attended a life-saving mission in Hemsby, arriving at 6.30pm.

A spokesman said a young boy had been hit by a van and suffered serious injuries, and their medics treated him at the scene before airlifting him to the major trauma centre at Addenbrooke's.

Police said enquires are on going to establish the exact circumstances into the crash.
