A man has died after being involved in a crash in Bungay.

Reports were received shortly before 1.15pm yesterday afternoon (Friday) that three vehicles had been involved in a collision in Beccles Road.

Police officers, paramedics and firefighters were called to the scene after a crash involving a white Vauxhall Corsa, a silver Ford Fusion and a blue Volvo V40.

A police spokesman said a man, who had been cut free from one of the vehicles, was taken to the James Paget University Hospital in Gorleston where he died.

It is understood that the man had not been injured in the crash itself but he had experienced a medical condition at the wheel, and it was later confirmed he had died.

A spokesman for Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said three crews from Bungay, Beccles and Loddon had been called to the scene for assistance by the ambulance service.

Firefighters freed a trapped man from one of the vehicles.

The brigade spokesman said: “With the casualty being stabilised by paramedics, crews got to work removing the side of the vehicle for casualty extrication.

“Once it was removed, crews assisted in carefully removing the casualty from the vehicle into the hands of the ambulance service.”

The road was closed for several hours while the scene was examined by police. Diversions were put in place as the road was closed. ● Any witnesses to the collision should contact police on 101.
