A man left in a critical condition after being hit by a trailer in Coltishall was walking his dog near a village pub.

The man, aged 72, was taken to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge by air ambulance, after sustaining a head injury in the incident at 3.35pm yesterday.

It is understood that the man was walking his dog outside the entrance to the car park of the King's Head and Rising Sun pubs when the accident happened.

Local reports say a car came round the corner, travelling towards the village, when the trailer it was towing came away knocked him over and ran over the top of him.

The trailer was left embedded in the decking outside the King's Head where landlord Kevin Gardner said witnesses had been left feeling very shocked.

Mr Gardner added: 'It was a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The gentleman was terribly unlucky.'

The road was closed until 8pm.

Police said the trailer was being towed by a green Skoda Octavia along the B1354 Wroxham Road when it became detached, mounted a footpath and struck the man.

Officers want to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed this collision or anyone who may have seen the manner of driving of the Skoda.
