A barn was on fire in Martham last night where 100 bales of straw went up in flames in White Street.
Police and fire crews were deployed to an old mushroom farm site on White Street just before 11pm yesterday.
A number of hay bales were alight, although the cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
The blaze was brought under control but, due to the size of the hay bales, fire officers decided that letting them burn out - which could take up to 24 hours - would be the most appropriate course of action.
Police have issued a warning that burning hay bales will mean possible heavy smoke in the area for the rest of the day.
Fire engines from Martham. Acle, Stalham, Gorleson and Great Yarmouth were called to the farm, close to residential properties and the village centre, in the early hours. They used a water carrier to get the fire under control.
Investigations continue into the cause of the fire and firefighters remain on scene today.
